Why, Honduras...
Honduras is located in the heart of Central America. We are nestled in a little valley between the mountains of Central Honduras in a town called Talanga, about an hour and a half north of the capital city of Tegucigalpa.
The Republic of Honduras is a beautiful and diverse country, with a culture infused with influences from the Spanish colonization of the country, ancient Mayan civilization, and rich Caribbean traditions. Religiously, around 45% of the population identifies as Roman Catholic, while 40% are Protestant. Agriculturally, Honduras boasts many important export crops like bananas, coffee, tobacco, and sugarcane. Politically, Honduras is governed as a democratic republic with a presidential representative.
The physical, emotional, and spiritual needs in Honduras are countless. As of July 2021, the Honduran Government estimates that as much of 73.6% of the population lives in poverty, and 53.7% are considered in extreme poverty. We believe that meeting all of these needs are important, and we've found that sharing about Jesus, the Bread of Life, is more easily received when one isn't listening over the rumble of a hungry tummy.
If you're considering visiting us on the mission field, you're in for a treat. The Honduran people are warm and welcoming, and we know that by the end of your stay, many of them will feel like family.
